The historical experience sends you to one of two nearby destinations, via secret itinerary, to explore the story behind the opera. The experiences converge at HC Media at Harbor Place for a thrilling concert of music from the current production of Rumpelstiltskin by Marti Epstein and the world premiere of scenes from The Captivity of Hannah Duston featuring and Q&A with Grammy award winning composer Lansing McLoskey and New York Times bestselling author Glen Nelson!

(Historical experience begins at 6pm and includes the price of the concert. Admission to concert only can be purchased separately.)

The Captivity of Hannah Duston is a world premiere opera and tells the true story of the Puritan colonist whose abduction by and violent escape from Native Americans was once revered, but over decades has become viewed with increasing suspicion. Based on historical narratives by Cotton Mather, John Greenleaf Whittier, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Henry David Thoreau, each retelling contradicts and undermines the other. The line between the teller and the tale blurs, which illuminates the “he said,” “she said” of contemporary politics.

Guerilla Opera’s cultural partners for this event are Creative Haverhill, the Buttonwoods Museum, the Duston-Dustin Garrison House and HC Media at Harbor Place.
